Frequently asked questions
Where does NearbyBuilds' Calgary construction data come from?
From the “Building Permits (c2es-76ed)” dataset published by City of Calgary on data.calgary.ca. We have loaded 230,409 issued building permits (2015-01-02 to 2026-07-15) and grouped the significant ones into 4,650 projects. Every page links back to the official record it came from — where our page and the source disagree, the source is right.
How often is the data updated?
The pipeline re-pulls every city on a weekly basis. The data behind this page was last refreshed on 2026-07-15, and the most recent Calgary record is dated 2026-07-15. The gap between those two dates is the City's own publishing lag, not ours.
Does this include every building permit in Calgary?
Every permit issued since 2015-01-01 is searchable — all 230,409 of them, including re-roofs, garages and minor renovations. Only the 4,650 major projects get their own page and a dot on the default map. No storey counts and no written project description — the summaries on this site are composed from the permit's class, work type, unit count and value. Calgary's housingunits field reads 0 on many genuinely multi-unit buildings, so unit totals undercount; the estimated project cost is the more reliable size signal.
How do I find out what's being built near a specific address in Calgary?
Type the address into the map search. It is geocoded against the City's own address register, and we return every record within a radius you choose — not just the major projects, but all 230,409 records. You can also browse by community from this page.
Is this an official City website?
No. NearbyBuilds is an independent project with no affiliation to City of Calgary or any municipality. We re-publish open public data in a mapped, searchable form and link to the original for every record. For anything official, go to the City.
